Letter signed ("Oliver P.") as Lord Protector, to "our Trusty and Well-beloved the Coun[ci]ll of the Admiralty," Whitehall, 30 September 1657. 1 page, folio, 295 x 188mm. ( 11 7/16 x 7 5/16 in.) . Boldly signed. CROMWELL ORDERS THE NAVY TO PROVIDE AN ESCORT FOR A VESSEL CARRYING ENGLISH SOLDIERS FOR SERVICE IN SWEDEN A letter dated the same year as England's new Constitution was drafted and Cromwell refused the title of King, relating to England's commercial and military alliance with Sweden: "Whereas Sr. William Vavasour by leave from the Councill is ready to transport some Levys [troops] for the service of the King of Sweden, in a Ship from the Port of Hull; these are to signify our pleasure, That you appoint a convenient frigatt to be a convoy to the said ship of Sr. Wm. Vavasour's from the said Port of Hull unto Stode in the Dukedom of Bremen...."
