Stancovich, an Istrian public official, was undoubtedly one of the most interesting Istrian personalities in the late 18th century. and the first half of the nineteenth century: canon and historian of Istria, priest and writer, polemicist, inquisitive researcher, became interested in archeology, inventor of agricultural machinery. Bibliophile and collector, his large library, with over 4000 volumes, is preserved in the city of Rovigno under the name "Stancoviciana". He wrote numerous books on various topics: archeology, linguistics, folk traditions, inventions, zoology, botany, music and architecture.
