COWLEY, John Lodge (1719-1797). An Appendix to the Elements of Euclid. Containing Forty-Two Moveable Schemes for forming the Various Kinds of Solids, and their Sections... , London: T. Cadell, [1766]. 4° (295 x 241mm). 42 engraved plates, all partly cut out to display their function, interleaved. (2 small wormholes in upper blank margins tapering to one as far as pl.15). Contemporary sprinkled calf gilt, red spine label (rubbed). Provenance : G. Attwood (presentation inscription to him, dated March 1811, on title and his signature, dated 1815, on an endpaper). Second edition. Cowley was a teacher of mathematics and book-keeping at the academy in St Martins Lane from 1752 until 1761 when he was appointed Professor of Mathematics at the Royal Military Academy at Woolwich, a post he held until 1773 when he was succeeded by Charles Hutton.
