cover The Medici Letters a superb four volume collection of entire letters including one volume of letters to or from Rafaello de Medici (32 items) c. 1510-21, many of the letters originate from Antwerp, Florence, Paris or Rome. Charles II of Spain made him a Commander of the Order of St. James of Copostello and he was Chamberlain to the Kings of the Holy Roman Empire - Maximilian I and Charles V. There are two volumes of letters (40 items) to Guilio (son of Rafaello) including letters to his wife Agnioletta (4) and son Cosimo (3). Guilio became Commissary General of the Tuscan Army and include ten letters to him from Cosimo the Great 1554-59 The final album of letters (33 items) are to Averardo de Medici c. 1518-1600. Averardo was the Florentine ambassador at Rome (1555) and Naples (1558) and subsequently dealt with foreign affairs for Cosimo I and Francesco I. All of the letters have been carfully annotated with routing and content details. Some of the letters have the original wafer seals or cord attached. A magnificent study which details the history of one of the great families of Europe. (105 items). Photo
