Created in the summer of 1973 by teenagers from Tel Aviv, "Friki" is a searing underground comic, satirizing Israeli society and norms around the time of the Yom Kippur War. Featuring biting acid-infused illustrations on multi-colored paper with unusual textual layouts, the comic is unflinching in its attacks on Israeli leaders, militarism, and blind patriotism. The group was arrested after the war, in December 1973, on charges of agitation, revolution, and aiding the Syrian intelligence services. They were convicted, but on appeal, eventually acquitted.
