(Count Leo) War and Peace, 3 vol., first edition in English, vol.I & II first editions thus, vol.III second edition, half-titles, 32pp. publisher's catalogue dated September 1886 at end of vol.I, 8pp. further advertisements across the 3 vol., bookplate of Alethea Rianette Anne Blackett (née‎ Scott) and an ornithological bookplate initialled SC on front endpapers of each vol., vol.I & II hinges reinforced, original uniform cloth, vol.III recased with reinforcements to spine ends, spines slightly marked and rubbed, 8vo, Vizetelly & Co., 1886-87. *** The first UK edition, and the first translation into English, slightly abridged and preceding the complete translation by Clara Bell published in America the same year. Although the edition is mixed, they appear to always have been together as a set, being in virtually identical condition and bearing the same contemporary bookplates. Complete sets of this translation, especially in consistent "first edition" form, are incredibly scarce.
