Half-title in each volume with contents on verso, volume I with engraved frontispiece portrait by Lebrun, titles in red and black, woodcut ornaments. (Some browning and occasional spotting, some marginal tears.)

(Lacking frontispiece portrait, sonnet 'Sur la mort de Louis XIII' ?misbound before A1, some browning and occasional spotting.) Together 6 volumes, near uniformly bound in contemporary French red morocco gilt, covers with arms of the Marquis de Bersaillin within triple fillet borders, spine compartments with repeated pointillé tools and contrasting morocco lettering-pieces (a few dark spots and light scuffing to covers, extremities lightly rubbed, spine of vol. V with two small wormholes at foot). Provenance : Claude Ignace de Froissard, Marquis de Bersaillin (1710-1783, binding and bookplate). The present edition is based on the edition of 1663, praised by Brunet for being edited by the author himself and containing numerous changes from earlier editions. Quérard lists a 6-volume 12° edition of Le Théâtre dated 1738 but published by F.-A.-Jolly with the imprint of Martin. Cf. Brunet II, 279 (1663 edition); Quérard II, 290 and 291 (for Oeuvres diverses and the Jolly edition). (6)
