HARDING'S SUDDEN DEATH, Coolidge declines an invitation, "...I am doing all the speaking that it is possible for me to do and I do not see how I can accept your invitation..."; COOLIDGE. Printed document signed in type as President, Washington, D.C., 4 August 1923, 1 page, folio, with black mourning border , THE PROCLAMATION OF WARREN G. HARDING'S DEATH: "In the inscrutable wisdom of Divine Providence, Warren Gamaliel Harding...has been taken from us. The nation has lost a wise and enlightened statesman and the American people a true friend and counsellor whose whole public life was inspired with the desire to promote the best interests of the United States and the welfare of all its citizens...Now, therefore, I, Calvin Coolidge, President of the United States, do appoint...August tenth...as a day of mourning and prayer..."; COOLIDGE.
