Vernon with the author's kind regards 1912." Smith, pp. 51-53--BEERBOHM, MAX. Seven Men, London, 1919, bright blue diced cloth, unopened, dust jacket (separated at spine) , FIRST EDITION, FIRST BINDING, Gallatin & Oliver 13, laid in: A FINE AUTOGRAPH LETTER SIGNED from Beerbohm to his English publisher William Heinemann, Worthing, Sussex, with Heinemann's received stamp of 29 April 1919, 3 pages, oblong 8vo, first page partially, evenly, lightly darkened , regarding the printing of "'Savonarola' Brown" in Seven Men : "...I fully appreciated your objection to having, as a general rule, such abbreviations as SAV., LUC., etc., printed in the middle of a page where there would be room and to spare for SAVONAROLA, etc., but that in the case of this particular play [the play "'Savonarola'" within the story] I thought these abbreviations, absurd tho' they are -- or rather, just because they are absurd -- ought to be preserved. Banish your fear that I shall address you as 'Hei,' or that I shall be offended if you don't call me 'Beer.'
