comprising: The Tour of Doctor Syntax in Search of the Picturesque, 1812; The Second Tour of Doctor Syntax, in Search of Consolation, 1820; The Third Tour of Doctor Syntax, in Search of a Wife, 1821; The Tour of Doctor Syntax through London, 1820, 4 vol., first editions, first issue of vol.1 with “Chapter I” instead of “Canto I” and first state of plate 5 (girl’s arm straight), second issue of vol.2 with second state of plate 15 (corrected to “Skimmington”) , hand-coloured aquatint vignette titles in vol.1, 3 & 4 and 97 hand-coloured aquatint plates, those in vol.1-3 after Thomas Rowlandson some light spotting or soiling, bound in later red morocco, gilt, by Root & Son, vol.1-3 uniform with boards panelled in gilt with gilt floral corner-pieces, spines gilt in compartments, all 4 vol. with horse and rider motif, t.e.g., vol.4 slightly larger and with joints a little rubbed, [Abbey Life 266-267 & 265; Tooley 427-429 & 434], 8vo, R.Ackermann, 1812-20-[21]-20.
