Burlington: 1847. 4to (310 x 250 mm). 14 views lithographed by T. Sinclair, loose as issued. Publisher’s lettered green wrappers. Condition : some foxing to several plates, one plate dampstained; wrappers soiled and chipped, paper-backed. Provenance : Martin P. Snyder. very rare series of lithographed views of burlington, new jersey. Includes the following views by Collins, lithographed by Sinclair, each laid into the wrappers and preceded by a title (repeated on the front wrapper): City Hall, Green Bank, St. Mary’s Church, Presbyterian Church, Riverside, Residence of the Revd. C. Van Rensselaer, Eastern View of Burlington, St. Mary’s Hall, Burlington Steam Mills and Water Works, Mechanics Bank, Residence of Susan V. Bradford, Residence of the late Governor Bloomfield, Burlington College and Friends’ Meeting House. After selling his Philadelphia lithography studio to Sinclair in 1838, Collins moved to Burlington. These charming views aptly depict the city as a pleasant river town amidst a growing economic and industrial boom.
