Millard of Troy, New York - she evidently wrote relentlessly to authors of the day, many of them women, and they responded in kind. So while some are simple signatures, the great majority are cards or letters, sometimes sentiments or greetings, others letters of some detail. Among the respondents are John Kendrick Bangs, Edward E. Hale, Lotta Crabtree, John Burroughs, Charles F. Lummis, Kate Sanborn, Anthony Hope Hopkins, Ella Wheeler Wilcox, Thomas Nelson Page, A.B. Frost, Owen Wister, Mabel Osgood Wright, Julia Ward Howe, Paul Lawrence Dunbar, Frances Hodgson Burnett, Charles Dudley Warner, Elizabeth Custer, Ina Coolbrith, and others.
