Collection of pins, most of them of local councils in Israel. Some of the pins bear symbols of local councils, while others belonged to various high-ranking officials. The items include: • Pins of various officials in the Jerusalem municipality. • Two pins from 1965 bearing the symbol of the Upper Galilee Regional Council, the sculpture of the roaring lion, Mount Hermon, a fruit tree, and sheaves of wheat. A legend in French appears on the pins. They were evidently created on the occasion of a twin cities agreement with province of Québec. • Pins bearing the symbols of Or Yehuda, Acre, and Ma’ale Adumim. • A pin marking the 25th anniversary of employment in the Haifa Municipality. • And more. Enclosed: A pin from the month of Adar (February-March) 1949 depicting Masada. The pin was evidently created to commemorate Operation Yitzuv, which was fought by the Alexandroni Brigade from March 2 to 9, 1949 (1-8 Adar 5709), which resulted in the capture of large amounts of territory in the eastern Negev and Dead Sea regions, including Masada and Ein Gedi. 22 pins in all. Size and condition vary. One of the pins appears in two copies. Provenance: Morton Leventhal Collection, New York
