Collection of charters, in Latin and Middle English, on vellum forty-three documents, including (a) two large and handsome thirteenth-century charters of Thomas son of William concerning Dalton-by-Topcliffe, Doncaster, 212mm. by 178mm. and 160mm. by 226mm., in a single accomplished cursive hand with numerous calligraphic flourishes, endorsed "Phillipps MS 27951 (1)" and "(2)", some folds, else excellent condition, both dated 1244; (b) charter of Henry Manning for Stephan 'le Breton' of Scropham, 190mm. by 110mm., with two attached wax seals, tied together with a single strand of grass (perhaps as in other cases included to symbolise the estate), excellent condition, 1307; (c) Sale of land in Pockley, Yorks., by Walter de Aylmeston, 220mm. by 89mm., Phillipps 40,495, excellent condition, c. 1300; (d) quitclaim of Joan widow of Geoffrey de Bikerwicke of land in Eston, Yorks., 185mm. by 65mm., Phillipps 40,981, excellent condition, early fourteenth century; (e) seven documents relating to estates in Dungworth, Yorks., 5 of fourteenth century, 1 of fifteenth, 2 with seals, good condition; (f) agreement between Dame Alice Portman, widow of Sir John Portman and John Garman in Middle English, 295mm. by 70mm., excellent condition, 1471; plus 30 others: 22 of the fourteenth century, 7 of the fifteenth, and 1 of the sixteenth, regarding lands in northern England including Skelmansthorpe, Middleton, Ottringham and Maltby, all Yorks., all except 2 in good condition; ex.
