Lot of 21 railroad passes, two dating from the 1870s, the remainder dating from the 1890s, each made out to "W.J. Hancock" or members of his staff and family. All but two of the lines are west of the Mississippi and include the Chicago, Milwaukee & St. Paul Railway; the Chicago, Burlington & Quincy Railroad Company; the Toledo, Columbus & Southern Railway; the New York, Lake Erie, and Western Railroad Company; the Leavenworth, Topeka & Southwestern Railway; the Illinois Central Rail Road; the Ferrocarril Internacional Mexicano; and the Frisco Line of the St. Louis & San Francisco Railway. William J. Hancock (ca 1847-1917) worked as a general superintendent for both Wells Fargo and the Iowa and Nebraska Division of American Express. He was born in England and moved to the United States with his family as a boy. In 1869, Hancock married Mary Stone, who was also issued a travel pass with the Chicago, Burlington and Quincy Railroad Company, included here.
