Colden, Cadwallader. THE HISTORY OF THE FIVE INDIAN NATIONS OF CANADA. London: Osborne, 1747. 8" x 5". xvi, [4], 1-90, [4], 91-204, 283, [1], folding map frontis. Period calf. Binding dry and with scuffs, label lacking, hinges cracked (binding intact), front blanks loose, top corner of title cut, early inscriptions to title and following page, otherwise a rather clean copy and Very Good internally with only a few minor instances of foxing. ************************************************** First London edition. Howes notes that this is the first history of the Iroquois Confederation. This edition also contains the additional 283 pp. section entitled "Papers Relating to an Act of the Assembly of the Province of New York for Encouragement of the Indian Trade and for Prohibiting the Selling of Indian Goods to the French..."
