Clement Rollins Grant (American, 1849-1893) Autumn Repose/Portrait of a Woman and Dog in a Landscape Signed "C.R.GRANT." l.r. Oil on canvas, 26 x 36 in. (66.0 x 51.4 cm), in a period frame. Condition: Lined, retouch. Grant was born in Freeport, Maine, 10 July, 1849. At the age of eighteen he went to Europe, studying in Great Britain and France. On his return he established a studio in Boston and became a member of the Boston Art Club. Known as both a portraitist and a landscape painter, the work presented here encompassed his mature style. Rollins exhibited at the Boston Art Club, the National Academy of Design, and the Paris Salons.
