Claire Cansick Pyrocumulonimbus, 2022 Oil on Paper Signed verso 15 x 10cm (5¾ x 3¾ in.) About I'm drawn to painting nature and not just its passive beauty but its wrath and destructive beauty, especially when influenced by climate change. Drawing plays an important element to my work as it is where I'm most instinctive, which I translate into paintings. I'm an active member of The Arborealists who through their love of trees seek to strengthen their importance through art and conservation. I paint from my studio in the garden near Norwich. Education Norwich University of the Arts 1996 Select Exhibitions/Awards Royal Academy Summer Exhibition 2022 British Painting 3, Bermondsey Project Space Avant Gardeners, Houghton Hall Sir John Hurt Art Prize 2021 Somewhere Unexpected, Norwich Castle Gallery Representation Chappel Galleries, Essex Gallery East, Suffolk Statement about AOAP Submitted Artwork Following on from my ongoing project on climate I decided to paint some images from the summer of fire, forest fires ignited by the heatwave, and a tornado from a video by a storm chaser in the USA. These extreme weather events give me a chance to be expressive with the materials while retaining the equanimity of the original image. I like to look at recessive colours and experiment with a limited palette of four colours, working in oil. Drawing plays a big part in my work so I wanted to make a charcoal drawing for the auction as it's a medium I love to work with. Message from Art On A Postcard: Please do not bid if you intend to sell on the artwork. All artworks have been generously donated by the artists to raise money for The Hepatitis C Trust and when work is sold on the secondary market, it damages our relationship with the artist and prevents us from fundraising
