(Civil War, Union Navy), Archive of Commander Samuel Gregory, 1861-1864, Commander of the U.S. Steamer Western World, later the U.S. Brig Perry, later the U.S.S. Potomska, comprising approximately 150 war era documents, signed by Gideon Welles, S.F. Dupont, Samuel P. Lee, John Adolphus Dahlgren, amongst others; including ship movement orders, supply orders, general orders, a canvas bound ledger of signals and on-board assignments for various tasks, and others, mostly 4to and folio, (mostly very good to fine); together with a group of maritime paper, 1848-1860, including course plotting sea signals and a journal account of work performed on coastal buoys and markers along the coast of Massachusetts.The U.S. Steamer Western World was an active participant in the blockade along the coasts of Virginia, the Carolinas and Georgia. She was part of the Potomac Flotilla.
