Beschreibung:

Lot of 3, including a daguerreotype of a young man wearing a patterned vest, dark jacket, and large tie, identified as George Washington Smith Also with two CDV-mounted tintypes of Smith, who appears in the same civilian clothing in the first image and in uniform in the second. His uniform consists of a private purchase coat and cap bearing a wreath-shaped hat device. Inscriptions on mount versos read, "George W. Smith / Uncle of A.W. Cunningham" and "George Washington Smith / Killed at Bull Run." Confederate Army casualty reports indicate that a Private G.W. Smith was wounded at Manassas, Virginia in August of 1862 and ultimately succumbed to his injuries, but absent of specific regimental information and given the great number of enlisted men by the name of George Smith in both the Union and Confederate armies, we are unable to provide a more definitive identification. Condition: CDV mounts with surface soil. Tarnishing to daguerreotype.
