Lot of 2 albums. First is a small leather wallet album with space for 16 CDVs, containing three CDVs and six tintypes, all of African American subjects, plus two locks of hair. Both inside covers are stamped Lon. Fickas (?). Three photographs are identified as John Butter, Pipper(?) Butter , and Remi(?) Hatton, and dated 1875 and 1876. Album containing nine CDV-sized tintypes, an albumen CDV, and a silver gelatin CDV. Seven of the tintypes are of white women and children, one is of an attractive mixed race young woman, and one is of an African American mother and four children, possibly of mixed African and Hispanic or Native American ancestry. The albumen CDV is of a white actress or dancer (backmark of Ryder, Cleveland), and the early 20th century carte of an African American girl. Provenance: Dr. John W. Ravage Collection of African American Photography Condition: First album's tintypes good to very good, and CDVs moderatley soiled and faded; album is soiled with brittle pages. Second album's tintypes are very good, and the CDV moderately soiled, though the album itself is deteriorated and should be considered a loss.
