[CIVIL WAR - MICHIGAN]. Two Civil War-era documents from the state of Michigan, including a state militia commission signed by Governor Blair, 1861.

BLAIR, Austin (1818-1894), Governor of Michigan (1861-1865). Partly printed commission document signed ("Arthur Blair") for Willis B. Pomeroy (b. ca 1837). Lansing, 19 June 1861. Sight 8 7/8 x 14 in. (brown spots mostly at old folds, not examined out of frame); framed to 16 x 20 in. Also signed by Deputy Secretary of State George H. House and Adjutant General John Robertson. Pomeroy enlisted at Fort Wayne, MI on 6/19/1861 as a first lieutenant. He was commissioned into Co. G of the 5th Michigan Infantry on 8/28/1861. The document here marks the 5th Michigan as part of the State Militia. He resigned on 1/27/1863. [With:] [CRAPO, Henry H. (1804-1869), Governor of Michigan (1865-1869)]. State of Michigan.
