consisting of a CDV album with 5 military views, 5 hard images of civilians, a small zinc powder flask with a non-regulation waist belt having oval US plate and cavalry cartridge box attached. The small album contains a Swing & Rudd CDV of Rosecrans and one private identified in period pencil as F. D. Albright/Band 102nd OVI. This is Felix D. Albright who entered service with Company G. in September 1862 and mustered out in June 1865. Another private and corporal are unknown and without back marks. The best carte, photographed at some depth of field, is an absolutely outstanding unmarked outdoor shot of a full company 43 officers and men with band drawn up in formation on a flat parade ground with a wooden building at right. Presumably, Albright is among the group of musicians at far left suggesting that this could be the entire field strength of Company G., 102nd OVI, location unknown. The exposure is typical of outdoor images but is marvelously candid, capturing a wealth of details including the mixture of slough hats and forage caps, four-buttons and shell jackets worn by the distinctly "western" company armed with Springfield rifles. Three unknown ninth plates and two sixth plates of family members are included in the group. Also, a badly dented small zinc powder flask with American eagle motif. Last is an unmarked belt rig with a cavalry box and oval "US" belt plate attached. The damaged leather is stiff and hopelessly dry rotted, in relic condition. The plate is unmarked and is complete with attachment prongs with wavy dents along the edges. The 102nd OVI was organized in Mansfield in September 1862 and served primarily in garrison duty guarding the lines of communication. It lost several hundred men killed, wounded and captured at Athens, Alabama in September 1864, many of whom later perished in the Sultana disaster. The regiment mustered out in June 1865. The value of the group boils down to the wonderful outdoor cdv and the belt plate. Condition: Cartes generally G+ in rough condition leather album that is broken with heavily soiled pages. Outdoor cdv with surface soiling and dented upper right corner, still near VG. Hard images about VG, two missing cases. Leather in RELIC condition, plate G with bends.
