Baltimore, MD: Printed by John Murphy & Co., 1861. 16pp., 8vo (235 x 155 mm). Original wrappers, unopened. Condition: some splits at folds, faint tri-fold, very light chipping to edges. rare: davis's passionate discourse delivered to the senate the day after mississippi's seccession. Davis asks in his last speech in the Senate, "Did the states surrender their sovereignty to the Federal Government? Did the States agree that they never could withdraw from the the Federal Union?" This speech comes ten days before Davis left the Senate and one month before becoming president of the Confederate States. OCLC locates only a handful of institutional holdings.
