Subjects appear both in uniform and civilian clothes and include Gilmore Medal recipient Captain Joseph Ackerman (ca 1835-1879) and Colonel Alexander Cummings McWhorter Pennington, Jr. (1838-1917). Also with a full-length standing portrait, approx. 1 x 2 in., of Sergeant George Eckendorff, Co. C, 191st Pennsylvania Infantry, mounted to a small piece of paper reading, "G. Eckendorff / Military Instructor / 1104 Sansom St. / Phila." During the Civil War, Eckendorff was wounded and taken prisoner at Weldon Railroad, VA. He died in captivity from his injuries at Salisbury, NC in 1864. Lot completed by a composite CDV showcasing "12 Views of the Great Armory of War," published by Anthony, New York, NY. Condition: Many with toning, surface soil, and scattered foxing.
