the M1850 Foot Officer's sword has 31.25" single-edged blade with 6" false-edge and 4/5 length fuller, with etched scroll work and U.S., on left face and eagle, flag and E. Pluribus Unum with floral scroll work on right, unmarked ricasso; single-piece cast brass quillon/guard/knuckle bow with scrolled quillon, open floral guard and reeded bow with slot for sword knot, cast brass stepped oval pommel with 1/4 backstrap with laurel wreath, shagreen grip with braided wire wrap; total length 37". Black leather scabbard with separate flaring plain throat, top band and middle band, each with carrying ring and typical drag; total length 31". This archive also includes a lot of 5 cdv portraits including a trimmed cdv of Henry D. Winship, 33rd Ill. Infantry and U.S. 122 CT infantry with imprint of J.C. Elrod's Gallery, Louisville, Ky, PLUS cdv of D. Bard Rock member Henshaws Ill. Battery and U.S. 122 CT infantry, PLUS cdv of Gen. Phil Sheridan with imprint of E. & H.T. Anthony, N.Y., PLUS an unidentified cdv of an older gentleman AND a tattered 50 cent U.S. fractional currency note. This lot also includes a regimental history entitled History of The Thirty-Third Regiment Illinois Veteran Volunteer Infantry in the Civil War..., by Virgil G. Way, Press of the Gibson Courier, Gibson City Ill., 1902, 4tp in embossed blue cloth boards, 288pp. Lot includes brief printed unit and soldiers histories for both identified soldiers. Condition: Minor wear to sword with fine old patina, scabbard in three pieces; Book with shelf wear and damp stains along bottom margin, G+.
