Signed by the issuing officer and with printed signature of General Lewis B. Parsons, Colonel and . Numbered 73822, dated March 7, 1863. Waldo F. Davis (1841-1915) enlisted on April 18, 1861 as a private and mustered into Co. E, 15th Ohio Infantry. After his term of service expired, he rejoined as a sergeant with Co. G, 46th Ohio Infantry and served until March of 1863, when he was discharged in Memphis for disability. ANS, approx. 5 x 3.5 in., 1p. Issued by Captain Edmund Cooper Bainbridge ("E.C. Bainbridge") requesting thirty-six horseshoes for a stable, dated September 2, 1862. Receipt acknowledged, possibly by a wagonmaster, and returned to Bainbridge on the same day. A graduate of the United States Military Academy, Bainbridge (1835-1903) had served as an officer for several years prior to his commission into the Quartermaster's Department on August 3, 1861. He held this post, as captain and assistant quartermaster, for over one year and was then transferred back to the 5th Light Artillery and promoted to lieutenant colonelcy. Four postally unused Civil War covers in support of the Union, each approx. 5.375 x 3 in. Designs include a battle scene between Union and Confederate soldiers, with the Union's front line consisting of Freedmen armed with tools and agricultural instruments and "Contraband barricade. / Come and get your property." printed below. A second cover features a donkey, representing the "Southern Confederacy," with a Confederate flag tied it its tail pulls against the post to which it is tied, marked "Union," with "Southern Ass-Stock-Crazy. / (Southern Aristocracy.)" printed below, indicating the North's refusal to yield to the South,. Also with two covers relating to Confederate General P.G.T. Beauregard, one bearing an elephant brandishing a banner lettered, "Where is Beauregard?" and the second a Confederate soldier bounding cheekily through a field at night, with "The Last That Was Seen of Beauregard" printed below.
