Circle of Aelbert Cuyp Cows Resting on the Banks of the Maas at Dordrecht Cows Resting on the Banks of the Maas at Dordrecht Inscribed on the reverse Galerie de San Donato Oil on panel 20 1/4 x 27 1/2 inches (51.5 x 69.8 cm) Provenance: Rosenberg & Stiebel, New York Acquired from the above in the late 1970s Private collection, New York and Connecticut Thence by descent to the present owner
The panel is compound, made of three boards. The painting is in generally very sound, stable condition. There is some ivery minor frame abrasion and slight inpainting to repair. Some inpainting on the side and around the eye of the dark brown cow at center; on the tawny cow, the eye and the right edges of the horns have been strengthened. Some small areas of inpaint in the landscape just below the tawny cow (along one of the panel's joins), and in the landscape behind the tree at right. All of these small repairs have been done to a high profession standard and are invisible to the naked eye.
