Original dark blue cloth, front cover stamped in blind, spine lettered in gilt (some small stains, extremities lightly rubbed, inner hinges, lightly cracked). Provenance : Winston Spencer Churchill (inscription dated 1948 in vol. I)-- Graham Crump (ownership inscription in vol. VI). FIRST ENGLISH EDITION of Churchill's landmark account of the First World War with errata slip in vols I and IV, but not in vol. III. This work was such a financial success for Churchill that Woods notes: ' The World Crisis' bought Chartwell for him'; with another work by Churchill: The Great War (London, 1934). Woods A31(a). (9)
