CHURCHILL, Sir W.L.S. Autograph letter signed to Pamela, Countess of Lytton, 9 June 1921, enclosing a typescript memorandum, one page, 8°, autograph, and 1½ pages, 4°, typescript, envelope. CHURCHILL ENCLOSES 'WHAT I ACTUALLY WROTE ABOUT VICTOR'. The memorandum is his recommendation of Victor, 2nd Earl of Lytton, for the appointment as Governor General of Canada, praising his public speaking, principals and 'sober and well-founded political convictions' as well as his 'personal charm'; mentioning too Pamela's abilities, 'all the qualities to make her a successful and brilliant consort to the Governor General'. Victor was instead chosen as Governor of Bengal in 1922.
