CHORIS, Louis (1795-1828). Vues et paysages des régions équinoxiales, recueillis dans un voyage autour du monde. Paris: Paul Renouard, 1826. 2° (435 x 290 mm). Letterpress half-title, title-page, dedication leaves, and explanatory text, 24 hand-colored lithographed plates. (First leaves slightly dampstained and foxed, some dust-soiling to edges.) Loose as issued in plain wrappers, UNCUT; modern boards chemise and slipcase. FIRST EDITION. In 1815 Choris joined Otto von Kotzebue's expedition aboard the Rurik as the official artist. The three-year voyage was the first Russian circumnavigation devoted exclusively to scientific purposes. Choris published the majority of his drawings in his 1821-1822 account of the trip, Voyage pittoresque autour du monde ; the present work, published in 6 fascicles, reproduces 24 drawings not included in the larger work. The lithographed plates include views of Brazil, Teneriffe, Chili, Easter Island, the Sandwich Islands, Manila, etc. Brunet I, 1851; Borba de Moraes 180-181; Sabin 12885.
