Loose as issued in plain wrappers, UNCUT; modern boards chemise and slipcase. FIRST EDITION. In 1815 Choris joined Otto von Kotzebue's expedition aboard the Rurik as the official artist. The three-year voyage was the first Russian circumnavigation devoted exclusively to scientific purposes. Choris published the majority of his drawings in his 1821-1822 account of the trip, Voyage pittoresque autour du monde ; the present work, published in 6 fascicles, reproduces 24 drawings not included in the larger work.
