Sendak, Maurice
Two Original Illustrations
No place, ca. December 1966. Two original pen and ink drawings, each inscribed by Maurice Sendak for Randy Rosensteel, and dated December 1966. Measuring 3 1/2 x 4 in., (88 x 101 mm) and 3 11/16 x 4 3/16 in. (93 x 81 mm). In mat and in frame, 14 1/2 x 9 1/2 in. (383 x 241 mm).
An attractive pair of original drawings by the beloved children's author Maurice Sendak (1928-2012) at the peak of his career. The subject and style he employed here is akin to pictures he drew for The Wheel on The School by Meindert DeJong in 1954, with the top drawing looking much like one that appears on page 254 in the first edition.
Randy Rosensteel (1939-2023) was a longtime employee of the Library Company of Philadelphia and worked in a variety of roles until his retirement in 2001. He also served on the Board of Directors of the Choral Arts Society of Philadelphia, volunteered for the Archeology Laboratory of Independence National Historic Park, and was active in the Stagecrafter's Theater in Chestnut Hill, Philadelphia.
