Bourke, Richard Southwell, Sixth Earl of Mayo, (1822 - 1872), Three times Chief Secretary for Ireland under Conservative Governments. ALS, on Irish Office letterhead, 25th July 1868 to Richard Nugent JP ''I decline to accept any responsibility whatever on the part of the Government for the defeat of these Clauses (Polling Places Clauses) which was effected by the most unscrupulous and inconsistent opposition on the part of the Liberal Party with the sole object of enabling violence and mob law to be the rule at the ensuing elections''. Irish born military genius and statesman. Wellesley served as Chief Secretary from 1807 to 1809. One of few Irishmen ever to become British Prime Minister. Free Front Signed.
