FIRST EDITION, 5 volumes, large 4to (305 x 245mm.), half-titles, titles in red and black, 318 plates after drawings by Lilian Medland finely hand-coloured by W. Martin Woodcock, additional title-page signed by Woodcock bound in, modern dark blue moroccco gilt, gilt edges
"This unique copy has been finely painted over the published plain plates after the coloured originals of Lilian M. Medland, F.Z.S." (additional title-page). Martin Wedgewood Woodcock 1935-2019), by whom the plates of this unique copy have been finely hand-coloured, was an acclaimed ornithological artist, influenced by early 20th-century painters Archibald Thorburn and George Edward Lodge
