Browned metal finish to barrels with case hardened finish to lockplates and stock furnishings. Walnut stock has checkering to straight grip and a shield shaped escutcheon to bottom edge of stock. Upper tang has a circular gold inlay with reliefs of the British Royal crest, below text reading BENTLEY'S/PATENT and above an engraved 527. There are also two silver inlays to top of breech, and silver blowouts to both sides. Markings include CHAs. JONES to both lockplates, and Birmingham House proof marks to bottoms of barrels. Flat of barrel rib is marked CHAs. JONES. 26 St. JAMES St. LONDON. Item features somewhat crude looking percussion cock levers, double triggers, and a flared brass tip wood ramrod. Charles Frederick Jones was a gunmaker who operated in both London and Birmingham. His Birmingham shop is believed to have closed around 1843 and his London shop closed around 1845. Afterward he was appointed as the gunmaker to H.R.H. (Her Royal Highness) Prince Albert. Condition: Good to very good. Bores are both dark and have residue. Original finish has worn on barrel rib, barrels still have a good amount of original finish that has since taken on a plum patina and scattered shallow pitting. Wood stock shows some scratches and mars. Action is functional.
