Title: Chapman's New Sectional Map of Wisconsin Published by Silas Chapman Milwaukee Wisconsin 1865 Author: Chapman, Silas Place: Milwaukee Publisher: Date: 1868 Description: Lithographed map, hand-colored. 83x76 cm. (32¾x30"), folding into original decorated boards covers; on the front pastedown is a fold-out table of statistics. Uncommon large-scale map of Wisconsin printed in Milwaukee, with a scale of 10 miles to the inch. Most of the settlements and railroad construction occur in the southern portions, with the northern counties largely unsettled and sparsely populated. The Chippewa Indian Reservation is located along Lake Superior. There are a number of old ink numerals and fractions across the center portion of the map, perhaps indicating quadrants or sections of interest, and also a line indicating a railroad; the ink has caused a few small holes. Lot Amendments Condition: Covers within paper lacking along spine; else very good, map quite fresh. Item number: 179705
