Fourth edition of "the oldest medical document after the Hippocratic writings" (Garrison & Morton 20). Written ca.30 A.D., the De medicina was lost to much of the Middle Ages until it was recovered in 1426-1443. Its importance is attested by it being the first organised treaty on medicine to be printed (at Florence in 1478). It includes sections on anatomy and surgery, medical instruments, and dental practice, as well as diet, pharmacology, and insanity.
