Caymus Vineyards, Special Selection, Cabernet Sauvignon 1998 Caymus Vineyards, Special Selection, Cabernet Sauvignon 1998 Napa Blueberry, blackberry and cassis in equal measure on the nose. Some vanillin from the wood (all French from this vintage on) still there which is normal for the year, where these types of tannin took on oak. Very juicy fruit which shows the great sorting and selection. Such a cassis finish. Superb for the year. SS. The tasting was held in L.A. and we drank the Special Selections from 1975-1990 over some spectacular food at Valentino. I was deeply impressed by the complexity of the wines which, for me, is the real criterion of quality and I was also struck by Chuck Wagner's direct approach, professionalism and zest for life. SS.
