(Marginal waterstains slightly affecting text, some spotting, chiefly marginal but all over on a few leaves, heavier stain restricted to upper margin of later quires, e1 with slight paper fault.) 19th-century sheep, covers with blind-tooled foliate border, large central rosette and smaller corner-pieces, blind-tooled spine in compartments (lightly rubbed and scuffed, inner hinges split). Provenance : Walter Ashburner (ownership stamps; sold Milan, Ulrico Hoepli, 26 August 1938, lot 41). FIRST EDITION. Written after 1333, this work is often regarded as a sequel to the Pungilingua of Cavalca, an early writer in the vernacular; an undated edition was also printed in Florence by Bartolommeo di Libri, about 1494. The imprint of Morgiani and Petri appears on books published between 8 October, 1490, and 22 February, 1496. The fine title cut of Christ in a mandorla had previously been used, along with two others, in their 1491 edition of Bettini's Monte Santo di Dio ; all three cuts were copied from copper engravings in the 1477 edition of Bettini's work.
