Cathedral of St. Peter & St. Paul Philadelphia.
Philadelphia: c. 1854. Tinted lithograph (685 x 505 mm). Framed. Condition: expertly restored. Provenance: Martin P. Snyder. "Behind the elaborate cathedral front centering about four columns, above which is carved 'Ad Maiorem Dei Gloriam,' is a tall dome. Two statues fill niches to either side of the three or four doors. This masterpiece of architects Napoleon Le Brun and John Notman begun in 1846, was not ready for services until 1864, and this view of it was no doubt designed to stimulate interest in its building. The Cathedral is located on Eighteenth Street north of Race" (Wainwright). Wainwright 42.
