CASALS, Pablo (1876-1973). Portrait photograph inscribed and signed ("Pablo Casals, 1907"), to "Messieurs Alsbach et Doger(?)." 5 7/8 x 4 in., including mount which bears part of ink inscription, cabinet size, in giltwood frame. Fine condition. An excellent soft-focus black and white photograph of Casals, the Spanish-born virtuoso cellist and conductor, gazing directly at the camera with an intense expression, wearing elegant turn-of-the-century attire. Considered one of the greatest 20th-century cellists and a distinguished conductor and composer, Casals gained an international reputation for expressive brilliance, exemplified in chamber trios performed with Jacques Thibaud and Alfred Cortot. -- CORTOT, Alfred (1877-1962). Autograph musical quotation boldly inscribed and signed ("Alf Cortot"), n.p., 7 May 1931. 1 page, boldly signed in ink, 5 bars on hand-drawn stave, in giltwood frame. An eminent pianist, noted for his interpretation of Schumann and Chopin. (2)
