CARY, John and William. New Terrestrial Globe...London, made and sold by J.& W. cary, Strand, March 1st 1815 with additions and corrections to 1829; New and Improved Celestial Globe...London, 1799. A fine pair of library globes, diameter 21 inches (53½cm), overall height 47 inches (119cm). Each globe made up of two sets of 18 (celestial 12) hand-coloured engraved gores, the celestial gores laid to the ecliptic poles, with elaborate constellation figures, the star positions taken from the catalogue of Mr Wollaston, the terrestrial globe marking the tracks of Cook, La Perouse and Vancouver in the Pacific, Phipps to Spitzbergen and Pickersgill and Ross in search of the North West Passage, original varnish (a few minor abrasions along celestial equator, some wear to the horizon circles). Metal pinions, brass hour and meridian circles, hand-coloured engraved horizon circles. The globes mounted on English style mahogany tripod stands, the horizons supported by four quadrants to a turned central column, with three downswept legs, compasses supported by stretchers, castors.Van der Krogt Car 13; Car15.
