CARTA EXECUTORIA]. DON RAMON ZAZO Y ORTEGA (King of Arms to Charles III, King of Spain 1759-88). Carta Executoria de Hidalguia in favor of Don Domingo Perez del Rivero, in Spanish. ILLUMINATED MANUSCRIPT ON VELLUM. Madrid, 27 August 1775. 299 x 200 mm. 34 leaves, FOUR FULL-PAGE ILLUMINATIONS including the grantee's arms, a portrait of the grantee on horse back, a baroque title with cannons and banners and a family tree, 18 lines written in black ink, notary's endorsement in lower margin of each recto, names, headlines, 4 headings within barock border, 4 large coat-of-arms and 11 large initials with land- and seascape scenes ALL IN LIQUID GOLD OR COLORS multiple ruled border in red ink. Contemporary pink stained Spanish sheepskin gilt, central coat-of-arms on both sides within a wide roll-tooled border, orange silk guards (light rubbing, remnants of silk ties). Ramon Zazo Ortega, was an official herald and genealogist for the Spanish crown. Here he compiles the family tree of Domingo Perez del Rivero, "resident and businessman in the City of Cadiz." Zazo Ortega declares Rivero the legitimate son of Joseph Perez del Rivero, of the town of Zerrazo, and traces the family lineage back four generations. Rivero's ancestors were all "pure blooded Christians, Nobles, without mixture" and some fought on behalf of the Catholic Kings against "the infidels." Signed by Zazo Ortega and others, likely Rivero family members. Another Zazo Ortega genealogy, from 1776, exists in the Lilly Collection at the University of Indiana.
