CARTA EXECUTORIA. [CHARLES V, Emperor, 1500-58]. Carta Executoria de hidalguia, awarded to Macian de Gris and his brother Francisco de Gris. Signed by various officals. MANUSCRIPT ON VELLUM. Granada, 8 March 1544.
CARTA EXECUTORIA. [CHARLES V, Emperor, 1500-58]. Carta Executoria de hidalguia, awarded to Macian de Gris and his brother Francisco de Gris. Signed by various officals. MANUSCRIPT ON VELLUM. Granada, 8 March 1544. 327 x 222 mm. 26 leaves. 35 lines. Two half-page illumination and one full page illmination of the grantee's coat-of-arms. One large initial. Multi-colored pen and in floral illustrations in the margins of each page, text accomplished in elaborate, calligraphic script, a notary's endorsement in the lower margin of each folio (some light worming and marginal darkening). Contemporary calf (worn), with original lead pendant seal. A sixteenth century grant of nobility to two brothers, which traces their lineage, establishes the legitimacy of their descent and notes the character and reputation of both the petitioners and their ancestors, several of whom were apothecaries and notaries in Valencia and Granada.
