Contemporary panelled brown morocco gilt, arabesque ornament in centre of sides, spine decorated with a small drawer-handle tool. PRESENTATION COPY TO CHARLES III, KING OF SPAIN AND SICILY with four page manuscript dedication from the author dated "Neapoli, x.Kal.Aug. 1708" and headed in gold ink, bound before the title. Cf. Melzi II, 255 "autore Nicolo Caravita, che lo publico col consenso regio, e forse anco d'ordine dello stesso re." The author, who was professor of law at Naples, wrote this work against papal claims to Naples, and the book was banned by the court in Rome.
