Karin Wolfe has suggested that the present painting dates to before 1705 and it is possible that it was once part of a cycle of paintings and may have been accompanied by other mythological scenes. This work is similar to other compositions of profane subjects by Trevisani, such as the Landscape with Pan and Dancing Nymphs in Palazzo Corsini, Rome. In addition, parallels can be drawn between the figures: the woman on the far-right of this canvas with her arm raised can be compared to Trevisani’s Cleopatra’s Banquet in the Galleria Spada, Rome.
