A set of 16 engravings (image 149 x 98mm. and smaller) by Israel Henriet after Callot, comprising a frontispiece, representation of Christ and the Virgin, and 13 Apostles (Paul is an addition to the "original" 12 and Matthias replaces Judas Isacriot), the order following that of Lieure, 6 inscribed "Callot fec.", the rest "Israel excudit", 7 with posthorn watermarks, mounted as a series of 16 prints in a green morocco-backed box (light spotting, occasionally affecting image). The large, distinctly monumental figures, reminiscent of Drer's own engraved series of Apostles are all set against small backgrounds which depict scenes of their individual martyrdoms. Lieure 1297-1312; Russell 183-184; Thieme-Bekker 418.
