[Bruges], 1610 (dated at bottom of lower central decoration), c. 82 x 66 cm, expertly written in various scripts (roman, italic, gothic, civilité) with large capitals (some touched with gold) and Renaissance style border decoration. Scrolled. In good condition (vellum darkened, sl. soiled, tiny def. at edges, some text lines fading).
Impressive large-size calligraphic sheet, with dedication in the lower right frame: “Nobillissimis et inclusissimis Consulibus | Senatorisque Franconianis adscripsit I. MARTINI”. At top coat-of-arms of the Brugse Vrije, a flowery border decoration. Also a polyglot performance , with texts in Dutch, French, German, Italian, Latin, Spanish and even English. Text area c. 66 x 56 cm, containing: 2 scroll frames (left a calligraphic decoration, right a Spanish text on justice, in italic), 4 Dutch texts in various scripts surrounding a French prayer, 3 French + 1 Dutch texts in various scripts, 3 2-line texts in Spanish, French, Italian, 3 texts of 4-7 ll. with large historiated initials (Italian, French, Spanish), 4 texts of 6-7 ll. (German, English, German, French), 4 texts of 5-7 ll. (French, Dutch, Latin), 4 texts of 2-3 ll., the 2nd on the left mirrored (!) , 2 frames: left with a French text in civilité, right with a Latin poem in praise of calligraphy . Joined : Calligraphic manuscript , [13] ff. remaining (some removed earlier), containing specimens (probably) written by “Cornelis Corthals 1660”, [Bruges?], and one "Tavernier scripsit". Somewhat soiled or stained, some ink corrosion (with loss). (2 pcs)
