Of particular importance is the first printing in English of Isidro de Atondo's "A New Descent of the Spanish On the Island of Califurnia [sic]. In the Year 1683," found on pp. 259-272. In it Atondo gives an account of his expedition to Lower California in 1683 where formal possession for Spain was taken near the Bay of La Paz on April 1, 1683. Streeter sale IV, 2421; Wagner, Spanish Southwest 58b; Sabin 24865; Wing R 840; Cox II, p. 42, which quotes Maggs Catalogue No. 549 as listing this (the Atondo section) as the first printed account in English of the settlement of Lower California.
