CAESAR, Caius Julius (100-44 B.C.). C. Iulii Caesaris quae extant ex emendatione Ios. Scaligeri , Leiden: ex officina Elzeviriana, 1635. 12° (134 x 74mm). Engraved title, 3 folding maps, 5 full-page illustrations, engraved headpieces, endpieces and initials (a little marginal dampstaining at the beginning, occasional light spotting). 19th-century calf gilt, gilt spine, turn-ins and edges (slightly rubbed at extremities). Provenance : Alfred and Blanche de Curzon (armorial booklabel). Willems 420 ('la seconde réimpression'). THOMAS À KEMPIS (1380-1471, Saint). De Imitatione Christi libri quatuor , [Amsterdam:] ex officina Elzeviriana, 1658. 12° (122 x 68mm). Engraved title, headpieces, tailpieces and initials (small marginal ink stains towards end). 19th-century red gilt morocco, gilt edges, turn-ins, blue silk doublures (a little worn at extremities, very slightly chipped at head of spine and back board). Although 'Lugduni' is given on the title page (as was usual for all Elzevier imprints intended for sale in Catholic countries), Willems identifies this work as an Amsterdam imprint. Willems 1232. With 3 other Elzevier imprints, Hugo Grotius's Mare Libero (Leiden, 1633, second impression, Willems 385), Livy's Historiarum quod extat ex recensinoe I.F. Gronovii (Amsterdam, 1678, Willems 1548) and Erasmus's Colloquia nunc emendatiora (Amsterdam, 1679, Willems 1563). (5)
